Book Launch

The centenary year of St John's Primary School, Wallingford is celebrated in this collection of words, pictures and memories from the children, former pupils and staff, parents and members of the local community.


The book records the enormous changes that have taken place in a small market town over the last one hundred years, highlighting the activities, celebrations and achievements of an Oxfordshire primary school.
Lessons, games, school trips, discipline, uniform, wartime and age-old jokes and riddles are just some of the subjects that are touched upon in the book.

About the Author & Contributors

  • Emma Anderson is a freelance publisher and her three children have all been to St John's.
  • Anabel Bowen is a graphic designer and her son left St John's in 2009.
  • Judith Brotherton has a daughter at the school, works part time at the school and is a member of the PTA.
  • Jenny Forder has been Headteacher of St John's School since September 2000.
  • Mike Organ is a web developer who attended St John's from 1977 and currently has three daughters at the school.
  • Viv Roberts attended St John's School, junior section, between 1975 and 1979.
  • Claire Satchwell attended St John's School in the early 1980s. She now has two children at the school.
  • Tracey Wernham Clark whose three children, husband, father and grandfather all attend(ed) St John's!

Easter Quiz

An extract taken from Mr Dean's Book:

An Easter quiz was instituted in 1959. This annual event involved the pupils exploring the town, researching the Library and pestering older relatives and residents during the Easter holiday, attempting to answer questions about the local environment.

So for the centenary year we have done one for you. Just for fun! Smile

Official Celebrations

On Wednesday 31st March 2010 St John's Primary School staff and pupils celebrated the centenary with official celebrations in St Mary's Church.

The children, parents and visitors filled the church to capacity and the event was a great success!

 
Centenary Open Day

St John's School opened its doors to the public to celebrate 100 years on  Easter Bank Holiday 2010

The open day provided all former students, teachers and parents the chance to revisit the school buildings for a wonderful touch of nostalgia.

Visitors took a nostalgic look around their old school, caught up with old friends and viewed our photographic displays.

 
Evening Celebrations

On Saturday 8th May 2010 we held an evening celebration of St John's School centenary year,  for the grown ups.

Guests celebrated in style and helped raise funds for the future with a fantastic auction and raffle with amazing prizes!
